18-wheeler Catches Fire After Collision

On September 28, 2015, an 18-wheeler collided with a truck that was left parked overnight on the side of the road near Loop 410 and Rosa Parks Way on the 5300 block of East Houston Street. The collision caused the 18-wheeler to fly off of the highway. It eventually landed on an embankment and caught fire.

The driver of the big rig was hospitalized without life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, there was nobody else involved in the accident. If this was the case, there lies the possibility that more injuries could have been sustained. The accident happened when the 18-wheeler's driver swerved to avoid running into the pickup truck; however, it resulted in the accident also taking out a large portion of the guardrail on the highway.

While there was nobody seriously injured in this accident, the results could have been much different for a number of reasons.

Truck accidents often occur because of the inability of the driver to maneuver or stop the truck. This is partially due to the large size and heavy weight load that is associated with big rigs. The 18-wheeler that fell off the highway and caught fire was carrying aluminum cargo, which could have impacted the weight of the truck. Luckily, the driver escaped with minor burns and a few scrapes.

A truck accident can have devastating effects on individuals involved. If you or someone you love was involved in a truck accident and sustained serious injuries, it is important to seek legal counsel to help you determine the exact cause of the accident. If it is determined that negligence on behalf of the truck driver, trucking company, or cargo loader was the cause of the accident, you may be able to seek compensation.
