Ikea Announces Tip-over Hazard For Chests & Dressers

IKEA recently announced that it would begin offering free wall-anchoring repair kits for its child and adult dressers after two reports of child deaths.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a repair program, in conjunction with IKEA North America, that offers free wall anchoring kits for IKEA chests and dressers. According to incident reports, at least two children have died because of IKEA dresser tip-overs.

IKEA is offering these wall-anchoring kits for its MALM three and four-dresser chests as well as various MALM six-drawer chests. Approximately 27 million IKEA dressers and chests are affected by this recall.

If you purchased one of these IKEA MALM chests or any other type of dresser that is taller than 23.5 inches (children's) or 29.5 inches (adult's) and the unit has not been properly affixed to the wall, IKEA and the CPSC urges consumers to stop using them immediately as they pose an entrapment hazard.

The San Antonio injury lawyers at Wyatt Law Firm, Ltd. represent victims of dangerous and defective consumer products, such as these IKEA dressers. If you or someone you love was injured by any type of product defect, we invite you to contact us today for a free review of your potential claim.
