Three-Alarm Condo Fire Injures Two

Two people were injured in a three-alarm fire that spread through the Belleza Condominiums in Ponte Vedra, St. Johns County, Florida this morning. Although this fire occurred in Florida, the news hits close to home for those who have been affected by recent San Antonio-area building fires, such as the Wedgwood Senior Living Center, Villa Tranchese apartment fire, and the La Paloma apartment fire.

Residents Displaced After Fire At Westwood Plaza Apartments In San Antonio

A two-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building on the west side of San Antonio yesterday. Fire crews responded to reports of a fire at Westwood Plaza Apartments. 14 apartment units were damaged in the blaze leaving several residents displaced until repairs are complete. There were no injuries but the estimated damages total around $125,000. Officials have not yet released the cause of the accident, only saying that it was exacerbated by high winds.

Five Oilfield Workers Killed In South Texas Accident

Five were killed last Thursday in a crash with an oil tanker truck. The accident occurred in a South Texas oil fieldwhen a van carrying the five men ran into the tanker truck, which then burst into flames. Police said that the five men who died in the crash worked at the oilfield. Sadly, these accidents are not uncommon in the Eagle Ford Shale area just outside San Antonio.

Another San Antonio Apartment Fire Highlights The Importance Of Smoke Detectors

Last Wednesday, a two-alarm fire burned down an apartment building on the North Side of San Antonio near the North Star Mall. The fire department arrived at the La Paloma Apartments around 12:30 in the afternoon. From what the fire department could tell based on initial observation, the fire started on the second story and then spread to the attic.
