Insurance Coverage In Texas

Texas law requires that all drivers be insured. Drivers are financially responsible for paying for any damages or injuries incurred in an accident if it was their fault. In order to fulfill this obligation, many buy liability insurance. In the policy, the driver at fault is responsible for:

  • $30,000 for every person injured
  • $60,000 for injuries in every incident
  • $25,000 for property damage

Liability insurance usually covers this for drivers. And though liability is mandatory to include in your insurance policy, there are other coverages you can include.

Examples of coverage include:

  • Collision
  • Comprehensive
  • Uninsured / Underinsured Drivers
  • Towing / Labor
  • Full Coverage

It is important to note that while uninsured / underinsured drivers coverage is not mandatory, it might be helpful if you get into a collision with someone who does not have insurance. This coverage plan will protect you from having to pay for the damage the other person caused.

In Texas, it is illegal to drive without insurance. If you are caught doing so, you can be fined between $75-$350 the first time, and up to $1,000 for any additional citations. You can also, potentially, have your driver's license suspended.
