Defective products leave contractor dead; lawsuit filed

Many Texas residents and others around the country use natural gas in their homes. Various mechanical pieces are used to tap into the gas lines to connect to the houses. Homeowners go about their days, assuming that these connections have been made properly and that the parts were manufactured correctly. However, as within any industry, defective products sometimes enter the marketplace and can have catastrophic results when used in gas lines. A lawsuit has been filed in another state against Honeywell and other parties after an explosion in a home resulted in the death of a contractor.

In 2017, an explosion occurred from a gas leak caused by defective nylon bolts used as the connectors. The contractor working in the home at that time died as a result of the explosion. The lawsuit was filed against Honeywell, the manufacturer of the nylon bolts. Also named in the suit was the company that installed the bolts, Contractors Group, Inc.  The lawsuit also included PPL Corporation for allegedly not having a shut-off policy in place when gas leaks occurred.

Court documents indicated that the widow of the contractor accused Honeywell of being aware of the defective part. She contends that the company had not taken any corrective action, even though other explosions were documented. The widow is seeking punitive and compensatory damages related to her husband's death.

Defective products can lead to serious injuries or fatalities, such as what happened in the contractor's accident. Survivors may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the company who made the product in question and other parties that were responsible. Compensation from a successful claim cover funeral expenses or provide an award for grief and suffering. A Texas personal injury lawyer can help clients navigate the litigation process and work toward achieving the best outcome possible.
