The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently fined a construction company here in Texas over the death of an employee, after the company apparently failed to maintain a safe work environment.
The fatality happened earlier this year, but the fine wasn’t issued until recently. Authorities say that the employee’s construction company had been hired by a trucking company. The employee was using a concrete boom to pour concrete. The weight of the boom allegedly shifted, causing an imbalance. The man was hit in the head by the boom and died as a result of the injury.
OSHA decided to fine the man’s construction company over $5,000 for the incident. The company is allowed to contest OSHA’s findings, though there is no word on whether it will do so. The matter is still considered under investigation because the company hasn’t paid the fine.
However this particular case turns out, it only highlights just how devastating the consequences of workplace accidents can be, both to an employee and his or her loved ones.
