Defective products: Ikea criticized for failing to act

Consumers put their trust in companies to sell products that are in line with basic safety standards. While most companies take great care to ensure that what they sell will not harm people, sometimes defective products still make it to the shelves. Texas families may remember how furniture seller Ikea has been accused of selling a dangerous dresser that killed at least eight children when the unit accidentally fell on them. Though the company recently settled a wrongful death lawsuit over one of the fatalities, some critics say Ikea isn't doing enough to protect consumers.

Concussions may be more serious than you think

If you have ever suffered a concussion, it is likely that your doctor told you to go home and rest, take a few days off work, and let the brain heal itself. After a week, you may have still felt the lingering pain from the blow to your head. However, your doctor's casual reaction to your concussion may have given you the confidence to get back to work and resume your life.

Surviving a Hydrogen Sulfide Emergency

Ask Texas oil workers and you'll hear it from them: hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is the bogeyman in drilling. More than just offensive to the nostrils with its rotten-egg odor, hydrogen sulfide is extremely toxic, highly flammable, and very corrosive to metal. Sadly, it also causes permanent debilitation and fatalities in the oilfields every year.

Hydrogen Sulfide: Deadly Toxin Profile

What is it?

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is an extremely toxic gas produced naturally from decaying biomass. Though H2S irritates the throat and eyes, its giveaway quality is its smell: a rank, rotten-egg odor that has earned this gas several nasty nicknames including "sewer gas" and "stink damp."

Banks Charge Undue Overdraft Fees, Lawsuits Follow

Clients from over fifty banks and credit unions nationwide allege they were wrongfully charged overdraft fees for failed transactions, despite having enough money in their accounts to cover the transactions. Even worse, many institutions purportedly charged multiple overdraft fees per single failed transaction as the bank attempted to process it.

Defective products: CDC reports dozens of deaths due to vaping

When consumers purchase a product, they trust that it is safe for them to use. Since food, drugs and other consumables undergo rigorous testing and are held to certain government standards, people here in Texas may assume that any product that is relatively easy to purchase is also safe, but unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Though most people know that tobacco products aren't completely healthy to consume, they likely think that most tobacco products carry a similar level of risk. However, recent findings by the Centers for Disease Control show that products known as "e-cigarettes" or "vapes" may carry a higher risk and may even be defective products.
