Werner Co. has recalled 78,000 Multi-Purpose Telescoping Aluminum Ladders that can break and cause the operator to fall. Although the recall was issued in June 2018, many potentially dangerous ladders are still in use, and someone has already been injured from a fall caused by the ladder breaking.
The recalls are for differing sizes of the same ladder style and include model numbers MT-IAA-13A, MT-IAA-17A, MT-IAA-22A, MT-IAA-26, MT-IAA-26A. Another characteristic of this versatile ladder model is that users can arrange it in five different configurations. The faulty ladders were sold all over the country at Lowes and Home Depot stores between April and May 2018, and the affected date codes, 21744XX or 011844XX, are located on the side labels. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends owners stop using them immediately and return them for a refund.
Defective Products and Injuries
Ladder falls are a leading cause of unintentional injury and death nationwide, and they are a leading cause of death on construction sites (CDC). Working on a ladder involves some inherent risk, but even those using a ladder safely may be hurt or killed when the ladder is undependable. The Werner Co. ladders are just one example of potentially dangerous defective products.
Every year, scads of defective products make it to consumers. That they are designed to help people makes no difference when they hurt people instead. Whether from lack of proper testing, faulty parts, or flawed manufacturing processes, dangerous commodities enter American markets all the time. Unfortunately, recalls often crop up after people have already been hurt or killed.
