Boeing is facing numerous lawsuits, investigations, and huge losses after two of its 737 Max airplanes crashed within a five-month span. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded Boeing 737-8 and 737-9 airplanes immediately following an Ethiopian Airlines crash this past March. Boeing is still investigating and repairing a faulty system deemed responsible. Several airlines have recently announced mass cancellations of Boeing 737 Max flights for upcoming months.
Hundreds of thousands of car accidents happen across the country every year, and many of them happen right here in Texas. Riding a motorcycle or a bicycle or even walking can be hazardous to your health. What about flying? The airlines like to say that flying remains the safest way to travel, and that may be true if you fly commercial. What about traveling by private plane?
You may have heard that flying is safer than driving and that the annual number of injuries and fatalities from plane crashes is much lower than the numbers from car accidents. You may also know that there are certain factors that can increase the danger for drivers, passengers and others on Texas highways. A driver can control many of these factors, such as fatigue, distraction and alcohol use.
Whether it's a long flight across the country or a short jaunt across Texas, an airline flight requires you to place your trust in many factors over which you have no control. You must trust that the plane is in good working condition, the pilot is well rested and competent, and the crew is capable and alert.
