San Antonio Airbag Defect Attorneys
Wyatt Law Firm is currently accepting cases for individuals harmed by defective airbags manufactured by Takata. The manufacturer has issued recalls of 34 million vehicles, including models Honda, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, GM, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota.
If you or someone you love was injured by a defective airbag, you may have legal recourse to recover financial compensation for your injuries. Takata recently announced the largest auto recall in history and one of the largest consumer product recalls of any kind to date.
Takata Airbags Can Explode, Sending Shrapnel Flying
According to injury reports, the airbags can explode, sending pieces of the steering wheel flying like shrapnel that can hit passengers inside the vehicle. These shrapnel-like pieces can cause serious lacerations, bruises and even loss of vision. Investigators have tied the exploding airbags to at least five deaths so far. Despite the severity of the potential risks, Takata has not promptly issued recalls to take affected vehicles off the road.
Airbag Defect Recalls
A majority of the recalled vehicles were manufactured by Honda between 2000 and 2011. Below is a complete list of the types of vehicles that use Takata airbags.
- Daimler Trucks
- General Motors
What’s Wrong With Takata Airbags?
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a faulty propellant inside the airbag compartment is causing the issues. The propellant can wear down over time, creating weak points that crack and even rupture, causing the explosions.
Up until this Takata airbag recall, Ford Motor Company’s transmission defect recall in 1980 held the record for the largest auto recall. Although the recalls were not all issued for the same problem, Ford recalled more than 30 million vehicles throughout North America.
