Car Accidents in Texas

Austin, TX – Two Injured in multi-Vehicle Wreck on I-35Car accidents frequently cause severe injuries to victims here in the state of Texas. Regrettably, many people are hurt as a result of negligent drivers. Leading factors in car crashes across our state include:

  • Drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol.
  • Drivers who fail to yield to others.
  • Drivers who switch lanes recklessly.
  • Drivers who run red lights at intersections or pass through stop signs.
  • Drivers who are distracted.

When victims suffer injuries and car crashes due to the negligence of others, they are often able to take legal action. After a car crash, you may be able to file a personal injury claim against the person who caused your injuries and damages.

In order to recover compensation for the damages that you suffered, you must be able to demonstrate the negligence played a role in the accident. In many cases, this includes proving that the driver was drunk, distracted, or engaging in another negligent action that led to the accident occurring.

In Texas, awards for compensation follow the comparative negligence doctrine. This law states that the amount of compensation you can recover for your damages can be reduced by the percent of fault that you have for the crash. If you had contributed to the accident taking place, the damages that you recover will be reduced by your share of fault. This can be quite complicated when it comes to pursuing compensation. For this reason, it is important that you seek the assistance of a car accident lawyer in Austin right away. An attorney will be able to help you pursue legal action against the responsible party and fight for fair compensation.
