Houston, TX (January 10, 2023) – A traffic accident reported on Sunday morning in North Houston claimed one man’s life. On January 8, the Houston Police Department responded to the scene of a vehicle collision on Farm to Market Road 1960 West.
According to preliminary investigations, at around 12:30 a.m., a male pedestrian was crossing the roadway in the 1400 block of Farm to Market Road 1960 West.
For unknown reasons, the meal was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was traveling westbound on the road. The impact of the collision caused the pedestrian to be ejected from the road and land in a parking lot nearby.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene to care for the injured man. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
No other injuries were reported.
We offer our condolences to the family of the man who lost their life in this fatal pedestrian crash.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Losing a loved one can be incredibly devastating. Unfortunately, hundreds of pedestrians die as a result of traffic accidents that take place in Texas each year. There are many instances when innocent people lose their lives as a result of drivers who are negligent while behind the wheel. Some of the leading factors in fatal pedestrian crashes include:
Speeding: A speeding driver is less likely to see a pedestrian in time to avoid a collision, and the impact of a speeding car can be devastating.
Distractions: Drivers who are texting or talking on their cell phones or simply just not paying attention to the road can cause harm to everyone nearby, especially pedestrians who have no protection during accidents.
Failure to yield: Drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians continue to contribute to a significant portion of fatal pedestrian crashes in our state. If your loved one died as a result of the fatal pedestrian crash, your family may be entitled to compensation. You will have to file a wrongful death claim against the person who is responsible. If your claim is successful, your family will be able to recover compensation for funeral and burial costs, pain and suffering, lost earning capacity, and more. While no amount of money can bring back your loved one, pursuing a wrongful death claim can help you hold the at-fault driver accountable for their actions and provide some measure of justice.
