Lubbock, TX (February 3, 2023) – A woman has died as a result of a car crash that took place in the Lubbock area on Monday morning. On January 30, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the site of a traffic collision on Farm to Market Road 400.

According to law enforcement, at around 9 a.m., a 33-year-old man was driving a Freightliner north along Farm to Market Road 400. As he proceeded through the intersection of US Highway 62, his vehicle struck a Nissan Versa, which was traveling west on the highway. Reports show that the driver of the Freightliner failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection.

The woman driving the Nissan, a 20-year-old from Floydada, Texas, and a 7-month-old female in her vehicle, were both transported to University Medical Center for emergency care.

Authorities confirm that the woman passed away from her injuries after arriving.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We hope the young child is able to recover quickly following this accident.

Our condolences are with the family of the young woman who lost her life in this accident.

Fatal Car Accidents in Texas

Lubbock, TX – Woman Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 400 near US-62Fatal car accidents take the lives of innocent people every single day in our state. Unfortunately, countless fatal accidents we see here in Texas are preventable. We see innocent people continue to lose their lives as a result of drivers who are intoxicated, distracted, or those who fail to yield to others.

When it comes to accidents at intersections, there are several reasons why vehicles may fail to yield the right of way to others. In some instances, drivers may not see other vehicles approaching the intersection. As a result, they may feel comfortable proceeding without stopping.

There are also instances where drivers are traveling too fast for road conditions and end up sliding through the intersection after being unable to come to a stop. This is particularly true in accidents involving commercial vehicles, which are much heavier and generally take more time and distance to come to a complete stop.

Finally, inclement weather conditions can contribute to accidents at intersections. We see many instances where drivers proceed through intersections due to icy road conditions that prevent them from coming to a complete stop.
