San Augustine County, TX (January 7, 2022) – An auto accident reported in San Augustine County sent two people to area hospitals with injuries. At around 6 p.m., on January 4, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Texas State Highway 103.

Reports from authorities show that a 2016 Western Star and semi-trailer was backing into a driveway in the area of Texas State Highway 103 and US Highway 96 when the vehicle collided with a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, 51-year-old Whitt Smith, sustained serious injuries. Smith was airlifted to a hospital in Shreveport for emergency medical care.

The driver of the big rig, 50-year-old Billy Thomas, was transported to a hospital in San Augustine by ambulance for care.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
