Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

The Woodlands, TX – Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash on FM 2078Each year, hundreds of people die as a result of fatal pedestrian crashes in Texas. In many of these accidents, some form of negligence played a role. Some of the most common causes of fatal pedestrian crashes we see in Texas include:

  • Distracted driving: With so many things competing for our attention these days, it’s no wonder that distracted driving is on the rise. From texting and talking on the phone to messing with the GPS or changing the radio station, taking your eyes off the road even for a second can lead to disaster.
  • Speeding: Exceeding the posted speed limit or driving too fast for conditions is one of the leading causes of accidents. Drivers who are speeding around curved roadways, in construction zones, and in congested traffic areas are likely to cause severe accidents
  • Drunk driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never a good idea, and it’s also against the law. Driving under the influence can make it difficult for operators of vehicles to stop in time to avoid crashes.
  • Weather conditions: Bad weather can make driving conditions more difficult and lead to accidents. As we move forward into the winter season, it is becoming more common to see crashes take place due to heavy rain, fog, and icy road conditions.

If your loved one has died as a result of a pedestrian accident, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the responsible party. A wrongful death lawyer in The Woodlands can help your family seek financial compensation for your losses.

Some of the damages that our legal team at Wyatt Law Firm will help your family recover compensation for include:

  • Lost Earnings: If the person who died was employed, their death is likely to result in lost earnings for their family. In some cases, life insurance may cover some of these lost earnings. However, if the policy is inadequate or there is no policy at all, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible party to recover these damages.
  • Medical Expenses: If the person who died required medical treatment prior to their death, their family may be responsible for paying these expenses. Once again, life insurance may cover some or all of these costs. If not, a wrongful death lawsuit can help recoup these expenses.
  • Funeral Expenses: Funeral and burial costs can add up quickly and can be a major financial burden for families who have already suffered the loss of a loved one.
