San Juan, TX (October 4, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed in a crash that took place over the weekend near San Juan. The collision happened around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2nd.
The Houston Police Department responded to the intersection of Eldora Road near Cesar Chavez Road after receiving a report of the collision. According to officers, a 19-year-old woman was walking near the intersection when she was hit by a brown SUV that was traveling westbound on Eldora. The woman, later identified as Ofelia Merlen Proa, of San Juan, was rushed to a local hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The SUV driver failed to stop at the scene and fled the area before police could arrive. Officials are still searching for the driver at this time. It is believed that the SUV may have damage to its front bumper.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Texas Department of Public Safety. No further details have been released regarding the accident.
