Alice, TX (February 2, 2023) – A woman and two children died as a result of a traffic crash that took place in Alice on Wednesday morning. On February 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a crash on Highway 44.
According to law enforcement, a black Volkswagen Jetta was stopped in the eastbound lanes of Highway 44 at approximately 7:07 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle stopped to check on another vehicle, which was parked in the center of the roadway, after experiencing a mechanical issue.
A silver GMC Sierra traveling eastbound on the roadway crashed into the Volkswagen. The force of the collision caused both vehicles to cross over into the center median and come to rest in the westbound lane.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 34-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. A child was also pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries.
A third victim, a second child, was rushed to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice, Texas, where they later died from their injuries.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
