Fatal Car Accidents in Texas
The last time the state of Texas saw one day with no traffic-related fatalities was November 7, 2000. In the 21 years since that day, more than 70,000 people have lost their lives while traveling in our state. Motor vehicle accidents in Texas take the lives of more than 3,900 people each year.
We see many drivers, passengers, and other travelers lose their lives in accidents due to the negligence of others. Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol contribute to more than 25% of fatal crashes each year. Drivers who are distracted account for 18% of crashes. Speeding contributes to nearly 20% of all fatal crashes each year.
