Hartley, TX (February 28, 2022) – A collision reported in Hartley County claimed the lives of several victims on Friday, February 25. At around 6:10 p.m., authorities were requested on-site at a crash on US Highway 87.
Reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety show that 33-year-old Maurine Jefferson was driving a 2019 Honda HR-V west on US Highway 87. For unknown reasons, the vehicle collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was driven by 59-year-old Eugene Trujillo.
Jefferson suffered fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Chevrolet, 62-year-old Diana Segura, also died from her injuries.
Two children in the Honda, an 11-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old girl, were both fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.
EMS transported Trujillo and 32-year-old Abbie Serbin to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
