Leon County, TX (June 9, 2022) – A deadly accident reported in Leon County on Monday afternoon claimed one woman’s life. At around 320 p.m., on June 6, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Centerville volunteer fire department responded to the scene of an accident on Interstate 45.
Reports provided by authorities show that a 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2021 Toyota passenger car had stopped along the northbound shoulder of Interstate 45 near mile marker 157 following a minor collision.
Members of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department were working at the scene to assist the victims involved in the accident when a 2016 international 18-wheeler struck the two vehicles. The impact of the crash caused the truck to roll on top of the Toyota passenger vehicle.
The driver of the Toyota, a 27-year-old female, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Two firefighters, a 21-year-old man and a 46-year-old man were both injured in the accident. The 21-year-old man was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple for the treatment of significant injuries. The second victim was airlifted to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan with serious injuries. The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man, was transported to CHI Madisonville hospital for care. A state trooper was treated at the scene for injuries.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
