Mauriceville, TX (March 31, 2022) – An automobile accident reported in the Mauriceville area late Monday evening claimed one man’s life. Just after 9:15 p.m., on March 28, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 12.
Reports provided by DPS show that a 62-year-old man from Orange was riding his bicycle east near Highway 12 during the evening hours. A vehicle passing through the area failed to notice the bicyclist. As a result, a vehicle rear-ended the bicycle.
The rider was then struck by a second vehicle.
The bicyclist suffered severe injuries as a result of the accident. Emergency crews responded to the scene to treat the victim. However, he passed away at the scene.
At this time, DPS is conducting an investigation into the accident.
