Mesquite, TX – Mitchell Rector Loses Life in Car Crash on I-635

Mesquite, TX (October 19, 2021) – A crash reported in Mesquite early Monday morning claimed the life of an off-duty police officer. At around 1:36 a.m., on October 18, emergency crews were notified that a crash on Interstate 635 required assistance.

Reports from local authorities show that 21-year-old Elias Luevano-Gonzalez was driving a 2015 Infiniti Q50 southbound when he crashed his vehicle into a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu in the 21400 block of Interstate 635.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 36-year-old Mitchell Rector, sustained severe injuries in the accident. Authorities arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Authorities confirm that Rector was an off-duty Oakwood, Texas police officer who was working in a construction area during the crash.

Luevano-Gonzalez is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
