Stratford, TX (March 31, 2022) – The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a motor vehicle accident in Sherman County has claimed one woman’s life on Tuesday afternoon.
At around 2:45 p.m., on March 29, a 2007 GMC Yukon was towing a Yacht Club boat trailer on the southbound side of US Highway 287. For unknown reasons, the vehicle pulled off to the side of the road and was parked in the shoulder area of the highway, just three miles south of Stratford. After an unknown amount of time, the Yukon re-entered to travel lanes of the highway.
A 2008 Peterbilt truck tractor was towing a semi-trailer south on the same highway when the two vehicles became involved in a collision.
The driver of the GMC, a 46-year-old woman from Fort Lupton, Colorado, suffered severe injuries in the accident. She was rushed to a hospital in Dumas, where she later passed away.
Two passengers in the GMC were injured. The two victims were identified as a 45-year-old male and an 11-year-old girl, both from Fort Lupton. The man was rendered aid at the scene. The girl was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life in this accident. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Fatal Truck Accidents in Texas
Reports from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) show that truck accidents take the lives of more than 580 people every year in our states. These incidents can often be attributed to some form of negligence. Some of the leading causes of these commercial vehicle wrecks in our state include:
- Drowsy drivers
- Driving while distracted
- Failing to yield the right of way
- Driving while impaired
These and other acts of negligence can have severe consequences. This is particularly true in cases where people are involved in motor vehicle accidents. Unfortunately, there is very little that we can do to ensure we are not harmed by others who choose to engage in various forms of negligence while operating their vehicles.
When victims lose their lives in accidents, surviving family members often have legal options available that they can use to get some sense of justice. A wrongful death lawyer in Stratford can help you understand your rights and what you can do moving forward.
