Tyler, TX (March 4, 2022) – One woman has lost her life as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Smith County on Monday afternoon, February 28. At around 1:20 p.m., authorities were requested on-site at a crash on Texas State Highway 31.
According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 70-year-old Mary Grooms was driving a 2007 Infiniti G35 west on Texas State Highway 31. For unknown reasons, her vehicle collided with a 2019 Nissan Rogue, driven by 28-year-old Mikaela Brooks.
The impact of the crash caused the Nissan to strike a 2021 GMC Acadia, driven by 38-year-old Sara Turner. The GMC then struck a 2020 BMW X5, driven by 51-year-old Zena Hubby.
Grooms’s vehicle then spun into the outside lane where it collided with a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, which was driven by 71-year-old Irene Cramer.
Grooms was rushed to a local hospital where she passed away from her injuries.
Brooks and Cramer were both transported to area hospitals for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Mikaela Brooks and Irene Cramer at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Mary Grooms. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
