Upshur County, TX (February 3, 2022) – An auto accident reported in Upshur County has claimed one person’s life. At around 5:35 p.m., on February 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of an auto accident on Highway 271.
Reports from DPS show that a van was traveling north on Highway 271 while following a pickup truck. As the pickup truck began to slow down to turn into a private driveway, the van crashed into its rear.
The driver of the pickup truck, 49-year-old Verna Harris, was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the van, 53-year-old Brendan Durkin, was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment.
At this time, DPS is investigating the crash.
