Van Horn, TX (December 3, 2021) – An auto accident reported on Sunday evening in the Van Horn area claimed one man’s life. At around 4 p.m., on November 28, emergency crews were notified that a crash took place on Interstate 10.
Reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety show that 63-year-old Juan Martinez was traveling on Interstate 10 in a 2016 Peterbilt truck-tractor when his vehicle began to slow down to merge. For unknown reasons, the truck collided with a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck tractor-trailer. The impact of the crash resulted in the Peterbilt striking five other vehicles, including a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.
Lopez Martinez sustained fatal injuries in the accident and died at the scene.
A total of eight people were injured in the crash. The victims were transported to Culberson County Hospital for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation by DPS.
