Von Ormy, TX (June 27, 2022) – One person lost their life as a result of a motor vehicle accident in the Von Ormy area on Sunday morning, June 26. At around 4:15 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a crash on Interstate 35.
Reports from local authorities show that an off-duty police officer with the Somerset Police Department was driving northbound on Interstate 35 when their vehicle became involved in a crash with a second vehicle near Benton City Road.
The driver of the second vehicle became pinned inside their vehicle. The victim had to be extricated by responding firefighters. Due to the severity of injuries that the victim suffered in the accident, they were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The off-duty officer sustained injuries as a result of the accident and was transported to University Hospital for emergency medical care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
