Two Children Killed by Wrong-Way Driver in West Bexar County

by | Jun 23, 2015 | Auto Accidents, Product Liability | 0 comments

According to Bexar County sheriff’s deputies, a car was traveling west near the 13400 block of Potranco Road when it swerved out of its lane into oncoming traffic. Emergency medical responders pronounced a man and two young boys, ages 11 and 7, dead at the scene. A local resident of the area responded first. He said thataccidents on Potranco Road are far too common.

The car that crossed over its lane into oncoming traffic was driven by the man who was killed in the accident. His passengers were the two young boys that were killed. The severity of the impact with the oncoming vehicle cut the sedan in half. The vehicle hit by the oncoming sedan was a truck driven by a woman who was also driving two boys. The driver and passengers in the truck sustained injuries.

Neighbors expressed to the media their thoughts as to why there are so many accidents on Potranco Road. Among their ideas for what has been contributing to these accidents include:

  • Low visibility
  • High speeds
  • Drivers who are unfamiliar with the road’s many curves
  • Population increase in the area, leading to more drivers on the road

The accident is currently under investigation.

While the cause(s) of this accident have not been determined, investigators may look into possible defective road construction. Some roads have a higher concentration of accidents than others do. While that does not necessarily mean that the road was engineered improperly, this could be true in some cases.

Investigators consider factors like slopes, curves, and speed limits to see if the road complies with highway engineering regulations. If a road is determined to be “defective,” then individuals injured in accidents on the road may be able to recover compensation through this type of claim.
