Defective products can cause serious harm to Texas babies

When parents buy a product for their baby, they probably assume it will be safe to use. Most people in Texas don't buy consumer products and worry about how dangerous they could be, yet defective products can cause serious harm to innocent consumers. Recently, the potential risks of several popular baby products was brought to public attention, specifically popular products used to help babies sleep.

An investigation undertaken by Consumer Reports found that some inclining products available that are supposedly able to help a baby sleep better could actually be placing them in harm's way. These are things a parent could place in the crib, bassinet or adult bed, and the investigation revealed that these products may be linked to 12 deaths from 2012 to 2018. Even though these are things that affect babies, sleep support products do not have to pass any type of federal safety guideline.

While any product added to a bed to help a baby sleep could come with certain risks, the soft fabric on some of these sleeping mats is particularly risky. This increases the chance of suffocation in case the baby somehow rolls over in the night. When contacted, a few of the companies that make in-bed sleepers say that their products have not been linked to any deaths.

Defective products are those that can increase the chance of injury or death when used by a consumer, even when used according to manufacturer instruction. If a child suffers harm because of a sleep support products designed for infant use, it is possible Texas parents may have grounds to move forward with a civil claim. Options for legal recourse are available through which appropriate compensation may be sought.
