What It Means To Be Av Preeminent® Rated

When you are involved in an accident and you need an attorney, it can be difficult to choose the right person for you. How do you know if a lawyer really has the experience and understanding they promise they do? How do you know if they will be able to understand your case and use the appropriate ethics in representing you? Luckily, there is a way you can find this information. In order to know if a personal injury attorney is qualified, check to see if she or he has a Martin-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating™.

The Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ system offers clients a chance to vet experienced and qualified attorneys. The third-party review uses peer feedback to check the qualifications of a lawyer in many different practice areas and their ethics. A lawyer can receive three different ratings.

The ratings include:

  • AV Preeminent® - Highest rating awarded. This shows that the attorney goes beyond what is required of them and displays an excellence in the legal field.
  • BV Distinguished® - Second highest award, shows the lawyer has extensive knowledge and understanding of the law.
  • Rated - It is an honor to be rated by Martindale-Hubbell®. This shows that the attorney meets certain qualifications and practices appropriate ethics.

In order to rate an attorney, Martindale-Hubbell® looks at the individual's practice area. They acquire references and accumulate reviews and feedback from fellow lawyers in the field. Reviewers are asked to discuss the following:

Legal Knowledge - Lawyer's familiarity with the laws governing his / her specific area of practice(s)

Analytical Capabilities - Lawyer's creativity in analyzing legal issues and applying technical knowledge

Judgment - Lawyer's demonstration of the salient factors that drive the outcome of a given case or issue.

Communication Ability - Lawyer's capability to communicate persuasively and credibly

Legal Experience - Lawyer's degree of experience in his / her specific area of practice(s)

Based on these aspects, they assign the appropriate rating.
