Leming, TX (July 2, 2022) – Authorities were dispatched to the scene of a major motor vehicle accident in Atascosa County that claimed the lives of two people while leaving several others injured. Around 7:15 a.m., on July 1, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on US Highway 281.
Reports provided by authorities show that a Union Pacific train collided with a second vehicle on US Highway 281 at the intersection of strawberry city Road, just a few miles south of Leming.
Two people involved in the accident suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three children involved in the crash were severely injured. The children, ages one, five, and six, were transported by helicopter to University Hospital for emergency medical care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
