Leon County, TX – Two Women Killed in Car Crash on Highway 79

Leon County, TX (January 31, 2023) – Two women died following a car crash that took place in Leon County. On January 28, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a traffic crash on Highway 79.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., a 2014 Dodge was traveling south on Highway 79. For reasons unknown, the vehicle hydroplaned into the northbound lane and collided with a 2021 Infiniti.

Two people involved in the accident, identified as a 72-year-old woman from Spring, Texas, and a 67-year-old woman from Katy, Texas, were both fatally injured. The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge was provided transportation to Palestine Regional Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the infinity, a 49-year-old from Katy, Texas, and their 24-year-old passenger were transported to Palestine Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
