Rhome, TX (December 20, 2021) – Authorities have confirmed that a young child has lost their life following a motor vehicle accident in Rhome on Sunday morning. On December 19, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on US Highway 287.
Reports from authorities show that 18-year-old Christopher Fowler was driving his vehicle on the wrong side of the road. As a result, his vehicle crashed into a second vehicle on the highway.
Two children in the second vehicle, a 14-year-old and a 5-year-old, were severely injured in the accident. The 14-year-old child was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical care. Authorities arrived at the scene and pronounced the 5-year-old deceased from their injuries.
Fowler initially fled the scene of the accident but was apprehended by the police. He was charged with manslaughter and an accident involving injury or death.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
