Roscoe, TX (November 11, 2021) – A motor vehicle accident reported just outside of Roscoe in Nolan County claimed one man’s life on Sunday afternoon, November 7. At around 1 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety was notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Interstate 20.
Preliminary investigations surrounding the accident show that 20-year-old Phillip Halterman was driving a 2017 Jeep Patriot on the interstate while following a Freightliner. As both vehicles began to slow down, a second Freightliner crashed into the rear of the Jeep. The impact of the crash then caused the Patriot to crash into the rear of the Freightliner ahead of it.
Halterman sustained severe injuries in the accident. Emergency crews arrived at the scene to render aid to the victim. However, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Phillip Halterman. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Fatal Truck Accidents in Texas
Semi-trucks play a critical role in the economy of our state and the entire country. Stores rely on these massive vehicles to deliver foods and other goods so they can keep their shelves full for shoppers. Although these vehicles are extremely helpful for everyone, it is crucial that truck operators are careful and considerate while traveling along our roadways. Regrettably, we see more than 500 people lose their lives every year in our state due to accidents involving 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles.
These accidents can often be contributed to some form of negligence. In fact, nearly 80% of accidents in our state are due to driver error. Some leading causes of collisions we see each year include:
- Driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol
- Using cell phones to talk or text while driving
- Eating while operating vehicles
- Speeding
- Driving recklessly
Losing a loved one due to the negligence of another driver is not only incredibly emotional for families, but it can be financially draining as well. Families often have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on medical expenses, funeral costs, and other financial burdens they face. These and other consequences just make it more challenging to move forward. For this reason, it is crucial that you reach out to a wrongful death lawyer in San Antonio as soon as possible. You may have legal options available to help you get justice.
