Tyler, TX (May 9, 2022) – A collision reported in Smith County has claimed the lives of two women on Thursday evening, May 5. At around 8:45 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a crash on Texas State Highway 31.
Reports from authorities show that a 2007 Nissan van was traveling west on the highway. As the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder in an attempt to make a U-turn, the vehicle collided with a 2012 Volvo XC6.
A 55-year-old woman involved in the crash was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second woman, aged 79, was also declared deceased on-site.
A third victim, identified as a 64-year-old woman from Tyler, was transported to UT- Health East Texas – Tyler for the treatment of injuries.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
