Like any other product, child car seats can be manufactured improperly, posing a serious safety risk to young children. Parents.com's product recall finder currently yields 64 different car seat recalls. Some of the major recalls are listed below.
Graco Car Seat Recalls and Injuries
In June of 2014, Graco Children's Products recalled nearly two million of its rear-facing car seats in the following models:
SnugRide, SnugRide Classic Connect (including Classic Connect 30 and 35), SnugRide 30, SnugRide 35, SnugRide Click Connect 40, and Aprica A30.
Graco recalled these car seats because it found that the harness buckle was difficult to unlatch and could sometimes get stuck in the closed position. In the event of a vehicle crash or other type of vehicle-related emergency, it can be important to be able to exit the vehicle quickly. This defect in Graco children's seats makes it difficult to do so, posing a risk of injury.
Evenflo Car Seat Buckle Recalls and Injuries
Evenflo, another car seat manufacturer, recalled 1.3 million child car seat buckles in April 2014 over concerns that the buckle could become stuck in the latched position, posing similar injury risk that the Graco seats were recalled for.
Evenflo's Momentum, Chase, Maestro, Symphony, Snugli, Titan, SureRide and SecureKid. The affected seats have model number prefixes of 306, 308, 310, 329, 345, 346, 371, or 385.
Baby Trend Child Restraint Recalls and Injuries
Baby Trend recalled 16,655 children's car seats in April 2014 after discovering that the buckle can become stuck in the latched position. This is the same type of recall as the Evenflo and Graco ones that were issued around the same time. Car seats can be recalled for a number of reasons, including among other things buckles that can become inadvertently unlatched.
